ಸುಂದರಕಾಂಡ.
ಅಥ ನವಮಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ

ತಸ್ಯಾಲಯ ವರಿಷ್ಟಸ್ಯ ಮಧ್ಯೇ ವಿಪುಲಮಾಯತಮ್|
ದದರ್ಶ ಭವನಂ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಟಂ ಹನುಮಾನ್ಮಾರುತಾತ್ಮಜಃ||1||

ಸ|| ಮಾರುತಾತ್ಮಜಃ ಹನುಮಾನ್ ತಸ್ಯ ಆಲಯವರಿಷ್ಠಸ್ಯ ಮಧ್ಯೇ ವಿಪುಲಂ ಆಯತಂ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಟಂ ಭವನಂ ದದರ್ಶ||

Hanuman, the son of wind god, saw in the middle of the main building a spacious mansion, best among all the mansions.

ಅರ್ಥಯೋಜನ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣಮ್ ಆಯತಂ ಯೋಜನಂ ಹಿ ತತ್|
ಭವನಂ ರಾಕ್ಷಸೇನ್ದ್ರಸ್ಯ ಬಹುಪ್ರಾಸಾದಸಂಕುಲಮ್||2||

ಸ|| ರಾಕ್ಷಸೇಂದ್ರಸ್ಯ ಭವನಂ ತತ್ ಬಹುಪ್ರಾಶಾದ ಸಂಕುಲಂ ಅರ್ಥ ಯೋಜನ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣಮ್
Hanuman who can subdue all enemies in search of the wide eyed Sita went all around in search of Sita.

ಉತ್ತಮಮ್ ರಾಕ್ಷಸಾವಾಸಂ ಹನುಮಾನ್ ಅವಲೋಕಯನ್|
ಅಸಸಾದಾಥ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀವಾನ್ ರಾಕ್ಷಸೇನ್ದ್ರನಿವೇಶನಮ್||4||

ಸ|| ಅಥ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀವಾನ್ ಹನುಮಾನ್ ಉತ್ತಮಂ ರಾಕ್ಷಸಾವಾಸಂ ಅವಲೋಕಯನ್ ರಾಕ್ಷಸೇನ್ದ್ರ ನಿವೇಶನಂ ಅಸಸಾದ||

Then Hanuman endowed with riches of strength reached the palace of the King of Rakshasas.

ಚತುರ್ವಿಷಾಣೈರ್ದ್ವಿರದೈಃ ತ್ರಿವಿಷಾಣೈಃ ತಥೈವ ಚ|
ಪರಿಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತಮಸಂಬಾಧಂ ರಕ್ಷ್ಯಮಾಣಮುದಾಯುಧೈಃ ||5||

ಸ|| ( ತತ್ ಭವನಂ) ಚತುರ್ವಿಷಾಣೈಃ ತಥೈವ ತ್ರಿವಿಷಾಣೈಃ ದ್ವಿರದೈಃ ಗಜೈಃ ಪರಿಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತಂ ಅಸಂಬಾಧಂ ಉದಾಯುಧೈಃ ರಕ್ಷ್ಯಮಾಣಂ (ಅಸ್ತಿ)||

That palace was guarded by armed Rakshasas and elephants with four tusks , three tusks and two tusks.

ರಾಕ್ಷಸೀಭಿಶ್ಚ ಪತ್ನೀಭೀ ರಾವಣಸ್ಯ ನಿವೇಶನಮ್|
ಅಹೃತಾಭಿಶ್ಚ ವಿಕ್ರಮ್ಯ ರಾಜಕನ್ಯಾಭಿರಾವೃತಮ್||6||

ಸ|| (ತತ್) ರಾವಣಸ್ಯ ನಿವೇಶನಂ ಪತ್ನೀಭಿಃ ವಿಕ್ರಮ್ಯ ಆಹೃತಾಭಿಃ ರಾಜಕನ್ಯಾಶ್ಚ ರಾಕ್ಷಸೀಭಿಶ್ಚ ಆವೃತಮ್||

That palace of Ravana was full with his wives, princesses brought by him after winning them over (in a battle) and other Rakshasa women.

ತನ್ನಕ್ರಮಕರಾಕೀರ್ಣಂ ತಿಮಿಙ್ಗಿಲಝಷಾಕುಲಮ್|
ವಾಯುವೇಗ ಸಮಾಧೂತಂ ಪನ್ನಗೈರಿವ ಸಾಗರಮ್||7||

ಸ|| (ತತ್ ರಾವಣಸ್ಯ ನಿವೇಶನಮ್) ನಕ್ರಮಕರಾಕೀರ್ಣಂ ತಿಮಿಂಗಿಳಝುಷಾಕುಲಮ್ ವಾಯುವೇಗ ಸಮಾಧೂತಂ ಪನ್ನಗೈಃ ಸಾಗರಂ ಇವ (ಅಸ್ತಿ)||

That Ravana's palace ( with Rakshasa women surrounding his wives and other princesses) looked like an ocean full of crocodiles, sharks as well as whales and shaken by the wind .

ಯಾಹಿ ವೈಶ್ರವಣೇ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀರ್ಯಾ‍ಚನ್ದ್ರೇ ಹರಿವಾಹನೇ|
ಸಾರಾವಣಗೃಹೇ ಸರ್ವಾ ನಿತ್ಯಮೇವಾನಪಾಯಿನೀ||8||

ಸ|| ಯಾ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ವೈಶ್ರವಣೇ ಯಾ ಹರಿವಾಹನೇ ಇನ್ದ್ರೇ ಚ (ಅಸ್ತಿ) ಸಾ ಸರ್ವಾ ರಾವಣಗೃಹೇ ನಿತ್ಯಮೇವ ಅನಪಾಯಿನೀ (ಅಸ್ತಿ)||

All of the wealth was possessed by Vaisravana ( son of Vishrava, Kubera) and Indra who rides the green horse was there in the house of Ravana.

ಯಾ ಚ ರಾಜ್ಞಃ ಕುಬೇರಸ್ಯ ಯಮಸ್ಯ ವರುಣಸ್ಯ ಚ|
ತಾದೃಶೀ ತದ್ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟಾ ವಾ ಋದ್ಧೀ ರಕ್ಷೋಗೃಹೇ ಷ್ವಿಹ||9||

ರಾಜ್ಞಃ ಕುಬೇರಸ್ಯ ಯಾ ವರುಣಸ್ಯ ಯಾ ಯಮಸ್ಯ ಋದ್ಧಿಃ ತಾದೃಶೀ ತದ್ವಿಶಿಷ್ಠಾ ವಾ (ಋದ್ಧಿಃ) ಇಹ ರಕ್ಷೋ ಗೃಹೇ (ಅಸ್ತಿ)||

Such wealth or more exquisite wealth as possessed by Kubera, Varuna or Yama was available in the house of the Rakshasa king.

ತಸ್ಯ ಹರ್ಮ್ಯಸ್ಯ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಂ ವೇಶ್ಮ ಚಾನ್ಯತ್ಸುನಿರ್ಮಿತಮ್|
ಬಹುನಿರ್ಯೂಹ ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣಂ ದದರ್ಶ ಪವನಾತ್ಮಜಃ||10||

ಸ|| ಪವನಾತ್ಮಜಃ ತಸ್ಯ ಹರ್ಮ್ಯಸ್ಯ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಂ ಸುನಿರ್ಮಿತಂ ಬಹುನಿರ್ಯೂಹ ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣಂ ಅನ್ಯತ್ ವೇಶ್ಮ ದದರ್ಶ||

The son of wind god also saw in the middle of those well-built complex of mansions another mansion.

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣೋಽರ್ಥೇ ಕೃತಂ ದಿವ್ಯಂ ದಿವಿ ಯದ್ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮಣಾ|
ವಿಮಾನಂ ಪುಷ್ಪಕಂ ನಾಮ ಸರ್ವರತ್ನವಿಭೂಷಿತಮ್||11||

ಸ|| ಪುಷ್ಪಕಂ ನಾಮ ವಿಮಾನಂ ಸರ್ವ ರತ್ನ ವಿಭೂಷಿತಂ ದಿವ್ಯಂ ಯತ್ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣೋರ್ಥೇ ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮಣಾ ಕೃತಂ (ತತ್ ದದರ್ಶ)

There was a wonderful aerial chariot by name Pushpaka built for Brahma by Vishwakarma.

ಪರೇಣ ತಪಸಾ ಲೇಭೇ ಯತ್ಕುಬೇರಃ ಪಿತಾಮಹಾತ್|
ಕುಬೇರಮೋಜಸಾ ಜಿತ್ವಾ ಲೇಭೇ ತದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಸೇಶ್ವರಃ||12||

ಸ|| ( ತತ್ ವಿಮಾನಂ) ಕುಬೇರಃ ಪಿತಾಮಹಾತ್ ಪರೇಣ ತಪಸಾ ಲೇಭೇ| ಕುಬೇರಂ ಓಜಸಾ ಜಿತ್ವಾ ತತ್ ರಾಕ್ಷಸೇಶ್ವರಃ ಲೇಭೇ ||

That (aerial chariot) was obtained by Kubera from the Grandsire ( Brahma) by supreme penance. Defeating Kubera with his prowess Ravana acquired the same.

ಈಹಾಮೃಗ ಸಮಾಯುಕ್ತೈಃ ಕಾರ್ತಸ್ವರಹಿರಣ್ಮಯೈಃ|
ಸುಕೃತೈರಾಚಿತಂ ಸ್ತಮ್ಭೈಃ ಪ್ರದೀಪ್ತಮಿವ ಚ ಶ್ರಿಯಾ||13||
ಮೇರುಮನ್ದರಸಙ್ಕಾಶೈ ರುಲ್ಲಿಖದ್ಭಿ ರಿವಾಮ್ಬರಮ್|
ಕೂಟಾಗಾರೈ ಶ್ಶುಭಾಕಾರೈಃ ಸರ್ವತಃ ಸಮಲಂಕೃತಮ್||14||

ಸ|| ಈಹಾಮೃಗಸಮಾಯುಕ್ತೈಃ ಕಾರ್ತಸ್ವರಹಿರಣ್ಮಯೈಃ ಸುಕೃತೈಃ ಸ್ತಮ್ಭೈಃ ಶ್ರಿಯಾ ಪ್ರದೀಪ್ತಂ ಇವ ಮೇರುಮನ್ದರ ಸಙ್ಕಾಶೈಃ ಉಲ್ಲಿಖದ್ಭಿರಿವ ಅಮ್ಬರಂ ಸರ್ವತಃ ಶುಭಾಕಾರೈಃ ಕೂಟಾಗಾರೈಃ ಸಮಲಂಕೃತಂ ( ವಿಮಾನಂ ದದರ್ಶ)

Blazing with images of wolves on finely built pillars made of Hiranmaya and Kartasvara (two types of gold), touching the sky and with multitude of pleasure houses, that auspicious aerial car was resembling the Meru and Mandara mountains.

ಜ್ವಲನಾರ್ಕ ಪ್ರತೀಕಾಶಂ ಸುಕೃತಮ್ ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮಣಾ|
ಹೇಮಸೋಪಾನ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತಂ ಚಾರುಪ್ರವರ ವೇದಿಕಮ್||15||

ಸ|| ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮಣಾ ಸುಕೃತಂ ಜ್ವಲನಾರ್ಕಪ್ರತೀಕಾಶಂ ಹೇಮಸೋಪಾನ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತಂ ಚಾರುಪ್ರವರ ವೇದಿಕಮ್ (ತಂ ಭವನಮ್ ದದರ್ಶ)||

(It was )glowing like fire and the Sun , it was well built by Vishwakarma with golden staircases and many platforms.

ಜಾಲಾವಾತಾಯನೈರ್ಯುಕ್ತಂ ಕಾಞ್ಚನೈಃ ಸ್ಪಾಟಿಕೈರಪಿ |
ಇನ್ದ್ರನೀಲ ಮಹಾನೀಲ ಮಣಿ ಪ್ರವರ ವೇದಿಕಮ್||16||

ಸ||(ತತ್ ವಿಮಾನಂ) ಕಾಂಚನೈಃ ಸ್ಫಾಟಿಕೈರಪಿ ಜಾಲವಾತಯನೈಃ ಯುಕ್ತಂ ಇನ್ದ್ರ ನೀಲ ಮಹಾನೀಲ ಮಣಿ ಪ್ರವರ ವೇದಿಕಮ್ (ದದರ್ಶ)||

With lattice windows made of gold and crystals, the platforms were embedded with Indraneela and Mahaneela sapphires.

ವಿದ್ರುಮೇಣ ವಿಚಿತ್ರೇಣ ಮಣಿಭಿಶ್ಚಮಹಾಘನೈಃ|
ನಿಸ್ತುಲಾಭಿಶ್ಚ ಮುಕ್ತಾಭಿಃ ತಲೇನಾಭಿ ವಿರಾಜಿತಮ್||17||

ಸ||ವಿಚಿತ್ರೇಣ ವಿದ್ರುಮೇಣ ಮಹಾಘನೈಃ ಮಣಿಭಿಶ್ಚನಿಸ್ತುಲಾಭಿಃ ಮುಕ್ತಾಭಿಃ ತಲೇನ ಅಭಿವಿರಾಜಿತಮ್ ತಂ ವಿಮಾನಂ ದದರ್ಶ||

It is shining bright with colorful corals and very precious gems fixed in the floor.

ಚನ್ದನೇನ ಚ ರಕ್ತೇನ ತಪನೀಯನಿಭೇನ ಚ|
ಸುಪುಣ್ಯಗನ್ಧಿನಾಯುಕ್ತಂ ಆದಿತ್ಯ ತರುಣೋಪಮಮ್||18||

ಸ|| ರಕ್ತೇನ ತಪನೀಯನಿಭೇನ ಚ ಸುಪುಣ್ಯಗನ್ಧಿನಾ ಚನ್ದನೇನ ಯುಕ್ತಂ ಆದಿತ್ಯ ತರುಣೋಪಮಮ್ (ವಿಮಾನಂ ದದರ್ಶ)||

It was red and bright like pure and polished gold comparable to rising Sun.

ಕೂಟಾಗಾರೈರ್ವರಾಕಾರೈಃ ವಿವಿಧೈಃ ಸಮಲಂಕೃತಮ್|
ವಿಮಾನಂ ಪುಷ್ಪಕಂ ದಿವ್ಯಂ ಆರುರೋಹ ಮಹಾಕಪಿಃ||19||

ಸ|| ವಿವಿಧೈಃ ವರಾಕರೈಃ ಕೂಟಾಗಾರೈಃ ಸಮಲಂಕೃತಂ ದಿವ್ಯಂ ಪುಷ್ಪಕಂ ವಿಮಾನಂ ಮಹಾಕಪಿಃ ಆರುರೋಹ||

Hanuman ascended that wonderful Pushpaka well decked with many corridors.

ತತ್ರಸ್ಥ ಸ್ಸ ತದಾ ಗನ್ಧಂ ಪಾನಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಾನ್ನಸಂಭವಮ್|
ದಿವ್ಯಂ ಸಮ್ಮೂರ್ಛಿತಂ ಜಿಘ್ರ ದ್ರೂಪವಂತ ಮಿವಾನಲಮ್||20||

ಸ|| ಸಃ ತದಾ ತತ್ರಸ್ಥಃ ದಿವ್ಯಂ ಗನ್ಧಂ ಜಿಘ್ರತ್ | ತತ್ ಪಾನಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಾನ್ನಸಂಭವಂ ಗಂಧಂ ಸಮ್ಮೂರ್ಛಿತಂ ರೂಪವಂತಂ ಅನಿಲಮಿವ ಅಸ್ತಿ ||

Standing there Hanuman smelt divine fragrance. That fragrance rising from food and drinks was intoxicating and spread as if to give shape to the wind

ಸ ಗನ್ಧಸ್ತ್ವಂ ಮಹಾಸತ್ತ್ವಂ ಬನ್ಧುರ್ಬನ್ಧು ಮಿವೋತ್ತಮಮ್|
ಇತ ಏಹೀ ತ್ಯುವಾಚೇನ ತತ್ರ ಯತ್ರ ಸ ರಾವಣಃ||21||

ಸ|| ಸ ಗಂಧಃ ಉತ್ತಮಂ ಬನ್ಧುಂ ಬನ್ಧುರಿವ ಇತಃ ಏಹಿ ಇತಿ ಉವಾಚ ಇವ ಯತ್ರ ಸರಾವಣಃ ತತ್ರ ತಂ ಮಹಾಸತ್ತ್ವಂ

That fragrance was as though inviting the mighty Hanuman like a relative inviting kith and kin saying "come here" and leading him to Ravana's chambers

ತತ ಸ್ಥಾಂ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಿತಃ ಶಾಲಾಮ್ ದದರ್ಶ ಮಹತೀಂ ಶುಭಾಮ್|
ರಾವಣಸ್ಯ ಮನಃ ಕಾನ್ತಾಂ ಕಾನ್ತಾಮಿವ ವರಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಮ್||22||

ಸ|| ತತಃ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಿತಃ ಮಹತೀಂ ಶುಭಾಂ ತತ್ ವರಸ್ತ್ರಿಯ ಕಾನ್ತಾಮಿವ ಮನಃ ಕಾನ್ತಾಂ ರಾವಣಸ್ಯ ಶಾಲಾಂ ಹನುಮಾನ್ ದದರ್ಶ ||

Then he moved towards the great hall of Ravana which is dear to his heart like his chief queen.

ಮಣಿಸೋಪಾನವಿಕೃತಾಂ ಹೇಮಜಾಲವಿಭೂಷಿತಾಮ್|
ಸ್ಪಾಟಿಕೈರಾವೃತತಲಾಂ ದನ್ತಾನ್ತತರಿತರೂಪಿಕಾಮ್||23||

ಸ|| ಮಣಿಸೋಪಾನವಿಕೃತಾಂ ಹೇಮಜಾಲ ವಿಭೂಷಿತಾಮ್ ಸ್ಫಾಟಿಕೈರಾವೃತತಲಾಂ ದನ್ತಾನ್ತತರಿತ ರೂಪಿಕಾಂ (ಶಾಲಾಂ ದದರ್ಶ)||

The stairs were inlaid with special gems latticed with gold, floor was covered with ivory inlaid with silver.

ಮುಕ್ತಾಭಿಶ್ಚ ಪ್ರವಾಳೈಶ್ಚ ರೂಪ್ಯಚಾಮೀಕರೈರಪಿ|
ವಿಭೂಷಿತಾಂ ಮಣಿಸ್ತಂಭೈಃ ಸುಬಹುಸ್ತಮ್ಭಭೂಷಿತಾಮ್||24||

ಸ|| ಮುಕ್ತಾಭಿಶ್ಚ ಪ್ರವಾಳೈಶ್ಚ ರೂಪ್ಯಚಾಮೀಕರೈರಪಿ ಮಣಿಸ್ತಂಭೈಃ ವಿಭೂಷಿತಾಂ ಸುಬಹು ಸ್ತಮ್ಭೈಃ ಭೂಷಿತಂ (ಶಾಲಾಂ ದದರ್ಶ)

The ornamented golden and silver pillars were in laid with pearls and corals. The hall was decorated with many such pillars.

ನಮ್ರೈರೃಜುಭಿರತ್ಯುಚ್ಚೈಃ ಸಮಂತಾತ್ಸುವಿಭೂಷಿತೈಃ |
ಸ್ತಂಭೈಃ ಪಕ್ಷೈರಿವಾತ್ಯುಚ್ಚೈರ್ದಿವಂ ಸಂಪ್ರಸ್ಥಿತಾಮಿವ ||25||

ಸ|| (ತತ್ ಶಾಲಾಯಾಂ) ನಮ್ರೈಃ ಋಜುಭಿಃ ಅತ್ಯುಚ್ಚೈಃ ಸಮನ್ತಾತ್ ಸುವಿಭೂಷಿತೈಃ ಸ್ತಂಭೈಃ ಅತ್ಯುಚ್ಚೈಃ ಪಕ್ಷೈಃ ದಿವಂ ಸಮ್ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಿತಾಮಿವ ಅಸ್ತಿ ||

Well decorated with columns which are touching the skies , some of which are bent, some of which are straight , it looked like it started to reach for heaven.

ಮಹತ್ಯಾ ಕುಥಯಾಸ್ತೀರ್ಣಾಂ ಪೃಥಿವೀ ಲಕ್ಷಣಾಙ್ಕಯಾ|
ಪೃಥಿವೀಮಿವ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣಂ ಸರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಗೃಹಮಾಲಿನೀಮ್||26||

ಸ|| ತತ್ ಶಾಲಾ ಪೃಥಿವೀ ಲಕ್ಷಣಾಙ್ಕಯಾ ಕುಥಯಾ ಆಸ್ತೀರ್ಣಂ ಸರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಗೃಹಮಾಲಿನೀಂ ಪೃಥಿವೀಮಿವ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣಮ್ (ಅಸ್ತಿ)

With several murals of earth which were having garland of palaces drawn on it, the expansive carpet looked like a piece of earth itself.

ನಾದಿತಾಂ ಮತ್ತವಿಹಗೈಃ ದಿವ್ಯಗನ್ಧಾದಿವಾಸಿತಾಮ್|
ಪರಾರ್ಥ್ಯಾಸ್ತರಣೋ ಪೇತಾಂ ರಕ್ಷೋಧಿಪನಿಷೇವಿತಾಮ್||27||

ಸ|| ಮತ್ತವಿಹಗೈಃ ನಾದಿತಾಂ ದಿವ್ಯಗನ್ಧಾಧಿವಾಸಿತಾಮ್ ಪರಾರ್ಧ್ಯಾಸ್ತರಣೋಪೇತಾಂ ರಕ್ಷೋಧಿಪೇನ ನಿಷೇವಿತಾಂ ||

With birds in heat making resounding noise, with divine fragrances and with exquisite tapestries the mansion was inhabited by the king of Rakshasas.

ಧೂಮ್ರಾಂ ಅಗರುಧೂಪೇನ ವಿಮಲಾಂ ಹಂಸಪಾಣ್ಡುರಾಮ್|
ಚಿತ್ರಾಂ ಪುಷ್ಪೋಪಹಾರೇಣ ಕಲ್ಮಾಷೀ ಮಿವ ಸುಪ್ರಭಾಮ್||28||

ಸ|| ಅಗರುಧೂಪೇನ ಧೂಮ್ರಾಂ ವಿಮಲಾಂ ಹಂಸಪಾಣ್ಡುರಾಮ್ ಇವ ಅಸ್ತಿ | ಪುಷ್ಪೋಪಹಾರೇಣ ಚಿತ್ರಾಮ್ ಸುಪ್ರಭಾಮ್ ಕಲ್ಮಷಾಂ ಕಾಮಧೇನುಂ ಇವ (ಅಸ್ತಿ) ||

Looking spotless white like a swan , it was smoky with smoke of Agaru. Because of the offering of flowers it was radiant like wish fulfilling Kamdhenu.

ಮನಸಂಹ್ಲಾದ ಜನನೀಂ ವರ್ಣಸ್ಯಾಪಿ ಪ್ರಸಾದಿನೀಮ್|
ತಾಂ ಶೋಕನಾಶಿನೀಂ ದಿವ್ಯಾಂ ಶ್ರಿಯಃ ಸಂಜನನೀಮಿವ||29||

ಸ|| ಮನಃ ಸಂಹ್ಲಾದ ಜನನೀಂ ವರ್ಣಸ್ಯಾಪಿ ಪ್ರಸಾದನೀಂ ಶೋಕನಾಶಿನೀಂ ಶ್ರಿಯಂ ಸಂಜನನೀಂ ಇವ ದಿವ್ಯಾಂ (ತಾಮ್ ದದರ್ಶ)||

The mansion was generating delight to the heart , pleasing with color and complexion. Demolishing sorrow as it were , it looked like the source of prosperity.

ಇನ್ದ್ರಿಯಾಣೀನ್ದ್ರಿಯಾರ್ಥೈಸ್ತು ಪಞ್ಚಪಞ್ಚಭಿರುತ್ತಮೈಃ|
ತರ್ಪಯಾಮಾಸ ಮಾತೇವ ತದಾ ರಾವಣಪಾಲಿತಾ||30||

ಸ|| ರಾವಣಪಾಲಿತಾ (ಶಾಲಾ) ತದಾ ಮಾತಾ ಇವ ಪಞ್ಚಭಿಃ ಇನ್ದ್ರಿಯಾರ್ಥೈಃ ಪಞ್ಚಇನ್ದ್ರಿಯಾಣಿ ತರ್ಪಯಾಮಾಸ ||

The chamber of Ravana, like a mother, gratified all five senses with five objects of senses.

ಸ್ವರ್ಗೋಽಯಂ ದೇವಲೋಕೋಽಯಂ ಇನ್ದ್ರಸ್ಯೇಯಂ ಪುರೀ ಭವೇತ್|
ಸಿದ್ಧಿರ್ವೇಯಂ ಪರಾ ಹಿ ಸ್ಯಾತ್ ಇತ್ಯಮನ್ಯತ ಮಾರುತಿಃ||31||

ಅಯಂ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಃ ಅಯಂ ದೇವಲೋಕಃ ಅಯಂ ಇನ್ದ್ರಸ್ಯಪುರೀ ಭವೇತ್ | ಇಯಂ ಪರಾಸಿದ್ಧಿಃ ಸ್ಯಾತ್ ಮಾರುತಿಃ ಅಮನ್ಯತ ||

This is heaven. This is the world of Gods. This is the city of Indra. Hanuman thought of this as the supreme achievement.

ಪ್ರಧ್ಯಾಯತ ಇವಾಪಸ್ಯತ್ ಪ್ರದೀಪಾಂ ಸ್ತತ್ರ ಕಾಞ್ಚನಾನ್|
ಧೂರ್ತಾನಿವ ಮಹಾಧೂರ್ತೈಃ ದೇವನೇನ ಪರಾಜಿತಾನ್||32||

ಸ|| ಕಾಞ್ಚನಾನ್ ಪ್ರದೀಪಾನ್ ದೇವನೇನ ಮಹಾಧೂರ್ತೈಃ ಪರಾಜಿತಂ ಧೂರ್ತಾನಿವ ಅಸ್ತಿ| ಪ್ರಧ್ಯಾಯತ ಧೂರ್ತಾಂ ಇವ ಅಸ್ತಿ||

The golden lamps looked like great gamblers defeated in a game of dice. The gamblers were as though they were in a deep thought.

ದೀಪ್ತಾನಾಂ ಚ ಪ್ರಕಾಶೇನ ತೇಜಸಾ ರಾವಣಸ್ಯ ಚ|
ಅರ್ಚಿರ್ಭಿಃ ಭೂಷಣಾನಾಂ ಚ ಪ್ರದೀಪ್ತೇತ್ಯಭ್ಯ ಮನ್ಯತ||33||

ಸ|| ದೀಪ್ತಾನಾಂ ಪ್ರಕಾಶೇನ ರಾವಣಸ್ಯ ತೇಜಸಾ ಚ ಭೂಷಣಾನಾಂ ಅರ್ಚಿಭಿಃ ಪ್ರದೀಪ್ತಾ ಇತಿ ಅಮನ್ಯತ||

Hanuman thought that the brightness of the lamps and the brilliance of Ravana , the brilliant glow of his ornaments set the place ablaze with brightness.

ತತೋಽಪಶ್ಯತ್ಕುಥಾಽಽಸೀನಾಂ ನಾನಾವರ್ಣಾಮ್ಬರಸ್ರಜಮ್|
ಸಹಸ್ರಂ ವರನಾರೀಣಾಂ ನಾನಾವೇಷ ವಿಭೂಷಿತಮ್ ||34||

ಸ|| ತತ್ಃ ಕುಥಾಸೀನಾಮ್ ನಾನಾವರ್ಣಾಂಬರಸ್ರಜಮ್ ನಾನಾವೇಷಭೂಷಿತಮ್ ವರನಾರೀಣಾಮ್ ಸಹಸ್ರಂ ಅಪಶ್ಯತ್ ||

Then he saw best of women wearing many varieties of clothes and garlands of different colors seated on the carpets .

ಪರಿವೃತ್ತೇಽರ್ಥರಾತ್ರೇ ತು ಪಾನನಿದ್ರಾವಶಂ ಗತಮ್|
ಕ್ರೀಡಿತ್ವೋಪರತಂರಾತ್ರೌ ಸುಷ್ವಾಪ ಬಲವತ್ತದಾ||35||

ಸ||ರಾತ್ರೌ ಕ್ರೀಡಿತ್ವಾ ಉಪರತಂ ಪಾನನಿದ್ರಾವಶಂ ಗತಂ ತದಾ ಅರ್ಥರಾತ್ರೇ ಪರಿವೃತ್ತೇ ಬಲವತ್ ಸುಷ್ವಾಪ||

Wearied having sported at night succumbing to drinks and sleep thereafter they fell asleep, when the mid night rolled away.

ತತ್ಪ್ರಸುಪ್ತಂ ವಿರುರುಚೇ ನಿಶ್ಶಬ್ದಾನ್ತರಭೂಷಣಮ್|
ನಿಶ್ಶಬ್ದಹಂಸ ಭ್ರಮರಂ ಯಥಾ ಪದ್ಮವನಂ ಮಹತ್||36||

ಸ|| ನಿಃಶಬ್ದಾಂತರ ಭೂಷಣಮ್ ಪ್ರಸುಪ್ತಮ್ ನಿಃಶಬ್ಧಾಂತರ ಸಭ್ರಮರಂ ಮಹತ್ ಪದ್ಮವನಂ ಯಥಾ ವಿರುರುಚೇ||

With sounds of their ornaments stilled and hence sleeping like the silenced swans and bees , the mansion looked beautiful like a forest of lotuses.

ತಾಸಾಂ ಸಂವೃತದನ್ತಾನಿ ಮೀಲಿತಾಕ್ಷಾಣಿ ಮಾರುತಿಃ|
ಅಪಶ್ಯತ್ ಪದ್ಮಗನ್ಧೀನಿ ವದನಾನಿ ಸುಯೋಷಿತಾಮ್||37||

ಸ|| ಮಾರುತಿಃ ತಾಸಾಂ ಸುಯೋಷಿತಾಮ್ ಸಂವೃತದನ್ತಾನಿ ಮೀಲಿತಾಕ್ಷಾಣಿ ಪದ್ಮಸುಗನ್ಧಿನಿ ವದನಾನಿ ಅಪಸ್ಯತ್ ||

Hanuman saw those well-bred young women with closed eyes and concealed teeth giving out smell of lotuses.

ಪ್ರಬುದ್ಧಾನಿವ ಪದ್ಮಾನಿ ತಾಸಾಂ ಭೂತ್ವಾಕ್ಷಪಾಕ್ಷಯೇ|
ಪುನಸ್ಸಂವೃತಪತ್ತ್ರಾಣಿ ರಾತ್ರಾವಿವ ಬಭುಸ್ತದಾ||38||

ಸ|| ತಾಸಾಂ ಕ್ಷಪಾಕ್ಷಯೇ ಪ್ರಬುದ್ಧಾನಿ ಪದ್ಮಾನಿವ ಭೂತ್ವಾ ಪುನಃ ರಾತ್ರೌ ಸಂವೃತಪತ್ರಾಣಿವ ತದಾ ಬಭುಃ||

The women looked like the lotuses with closed petals after having been like the lotuses in bloom from early mooning.

ಇಮಾನಿ ಮುಖಪದ್ಮಾನಿ ನಿಯತಂ ಮತ್ತಷಟ್ಪದಾಃ|
ಅಂಬುಜಾನೀವ ಪುಲ್ಲಾನಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಂತಿ ಪುನಃ ಪುನಃ||39||

ಸ|| ಮತ್ತಷಟ್ಪದಾಃ ಇಮಾನಿ ಮುಖಪದ್ಮಾನಿ ಪುಲ್ಲಾನಿ ಅಂಬುಜಾನಿವ ಪುನಃ ಪುನಃ ನಿಯತಮ್ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯನ್ತಿ||

The intoxicated bees would again and again desire to enjoy the beautiful blooming lotus like faces.

ಇತಿಚಾಮನ್ಯತ ಶ್ರೀಮಾನ್ ಉಪಪತ್ತ್ಯಾ ಮಹಾಕಪಿಃ||
ಮೇನೇ ಹಿ ಗುಣತಸ್ತಾನಿ ಸಮಾನಿ ಸಲಿಲೋದ್ಭವೈಃ||40||

ಸ|| ಶ್ರೀಮಾನ್ ಮಹಾಕಪಿಃ ತಾನಿ ಗುಣತಃ ಉಪಪತ್ತ್ಯಾ ಸಲಿಲೋದ್ಭವೈಃ ಸಮಾನಿ ಇತಿ ಅಮನ್ಯತ | ಮೇನೇ ಹಿ ||

Having ascertained the qualities, the great Vanara felt that it is correct to compare them with lotuses.

ಸಾ ತಸ್ಯ ಶುಶುಭೇಶಾಲಾ ತಾಭಿಃ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಭಿ ರ್ವಿರಾಜಿತಾ|
ಶಾರದೀವ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನಾ ದ್ಯೌಃ ತಾರಾಭಿರಭಿಶೋಭಿತಾ||41||

ತಸ್ಯ ಸಾ ಶಾಲಾ ತಾಭಿಃ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಭಿಃ ವಿರಾಜಿತಾ | ತಾರಾಭಿಃ ಅಭಿಶೋಭಿತಾ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನಾ ಶಾರದೀ ದ್ಯೌ ಇವ ಶುಶುಭೇ||

The mansion of the (Rakshasa king) shone with women . It shone like the clear autumnal sky lit by shining stars

ಸ ಚ ತಾಭಿಃ ಪರಿವೃತಃ ಶುಶುಭೇ ರಾಕ್ಷಸಾಧಿಪಃ|
ಯಥಾ ಹ್ಯುಡು ಪತಿಃ ಶ್ರೀಮಾಂಸ್ತಾರಾಭಿರಭಿಸಂವೃತಃ||42||

ಸ|| ತಾಭಿಃ ಪರಿವೃತ್ತಃ ಸಃ ರಾಕ್ಷಸಾಧಿಪಃ ತಾರಾಭಿಃ ಅಭಿಸಂವೃತ್ತಃ ಶ್ರೀಮಾನ್ ಹ್ಯುಡುಪತಿಃ ಇವ ಶುಶುಭೇ||

Thus surrounded by them the king of Rakshasas shone like the Moon surrounded by the stars.

ಯಾಶ್ಚ್ಯವನ್ತೇಽಮ್ಬರಾತ್ತಾರಾಃ ಪುಣ್ಯಶೇಷ ಸಮಾವೃತಾಃ|
ಇಮಾ ಸ್ತಾ ಸ್ಸಂಗತಾಃ ಕೃತ್ಸ್ನಾ ಇತಿ ಮೇನೇ ಹರಿಸ್ತದಾ||43||

ಸ|| ಯಾಃ ತಾರಾಃ ಪುಣ್ಯಶೇಷ ಸಮವೃತ್ತಾಃ ಅಮ್ಬರಾತ್ ಚ್ಯವನ್ತೇ ತಾಃ ಕೃತ್ಸ್ನಾಃ ಇಮಾಃ ಸಂಗತಾಃ ಇತಿ ತದಾ ಹರಿಃ ಮೇನೇ ||

The Vanara thought that the women looked like the stars who have fallen to earth after having exhausted their merits

ತಾರಾಣಾಮಿವ ಸುವ್ಯಕ್ತಂ ಮಹತೀನಾಂ ಶುಭಾರ್ಚಿಷಾಮ್|
ಪ್ರಭಾವರ್ಣ ಪ್ರಸಾದಾಶ್ಚ ವಿರೇಜುಸ್ತತ್ರ ಯೋಷಿತಾಮ್||44||

ಸ|| ತತ್ರ ಯೋಷಿತಾಮ್ ಪ್ರಭಾವರ್ಣ ಪ್ರಸಾದಃ ಚ ಶುಭಾರ್ಚಿಷಾಮ್ ಮಹತೀನಾಮ್ ತಾರಾಣಾಮಿವ ಸುವ್ಯಕ್ತಮ್ ವಿರೇಜುಃ||

The luster and grace of those women looked like the that of brilliant stars releasing auspicious glow.

ವ್ಯಾವೃತ್ತಗುರು ಪೀನಸ್ರಕ್ಪ್ರಕೀರ್ಣ ವರಭೂಷಣಾಃ|
ಪಾನವ್ಯಾಯಮಕಾಲೇಷು ನಿದ್ರಾಪಹೃತಚೇತಸಃ||45||

ಸ|| ( ಸಾ) ಪಾನಾವ್ಯಾಯಮ ಕಾಲೇಷು ವ್ಯಾವೃತ್ತ ಗುರು ಪೀನ ಸ್ರಕ್ಪ್ರಕೀರ್ಣ ವರ ಭೂಷಣಾಃ ನಿದ್ರ ಅಪಹೃತ ಚೇತಸಃ ಸನ್ತಿ||

With jewels displaced and garlands scattered after drinking and sexual exercises, they had minds dazed in slumber.

ವ್ಯಾವೃತ್ತ ತಿಲಕಾಃ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿತ್ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿದುದ್ಭ್ರಾನ್ತನೂಪುರಾಃ|
ಪಾರ್ಶ್ವೇ ಗಳಿತಹಾರಾಶ್ಚ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿತ್ ಪರಮಯೋಷಿತಾಃ||46||

ಸ|| ಕಶ್ಚಿತ್ ಪರಮಯೋಷಿತಃ ವ್ಯಾವೃತ್ತ ತಿಲಕಾಃ ಕಶ್ಚಿತ್ ಉದ್ಭ್ರಾನ್ತನೂಪುರಾಃ ಕಶ್ಚಿತ್ ಪಾರ್ಶ್ವೇ ಗಳಿತಹಾರಾಃ ಚ

A few had their verminal marks smudged, a few had anklets let loose and a few had necklaces one side.

ಮುಕ್ತಾಹಾರಾಽವೃತಾ ಶ್ಚಾನ್ಯಾಃ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿತ್ ವಿಸ್ರಸ್ತವಾಸಸಃ|
ವ್ಯಾವಿದ್ದರಶನಾದಾಮಾಃ ಕಿಶೋರ್ಯ ಇವ ವಾಹಿತಾಃ||47||

ಸ|| ಅನ್ಯಾಃ ಮುಕ್ತಾಹಾರಾವೃತಾಃ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿತ್ ವಿಸ್ತತ್ರವಾಸಸಃ ವ್ಯಾವಿದ್ಧರಶನಾದಾಮಾಃ ವಾಹಿತಾಃ ಕಿಶೋರ್ಯಾಃ ಇವ ಆಸೀತ್||

Others had broken pearl strings on their girdle, some had their clothes slipped off, and some had waist belts snapped and fallen to the ground like young mares released to rest.

ಸುಕುಣ್ಡಲಧರಾಶ್ಚಾನ್ಯಾ ವಿಚ್ಛಿನ್ನಮೃದಿತಸ್ರಜಃ|
ಗಜೇನ್ದ್ರಮೃದಿತಾಃ ಪುಲ್ಲಾ ಲತಾ ಇವ ಮಹಾನನೇ||48||

ಸ|| ಸುಕುಣ್ಡಲಧರಾಃ ಅನ್ಯಾಃ ವಿಚ್ಛಿನ್ನಮೃದಿತಸ್ರಜಾಃ ಮಹಾವನೇ ಗಜೇನ್ದ್ರಮೃದಿತಾಃ ಫ್ಹುಲ್ಲಾಃ ಲತಾ ವ ಆಸೀತ್ ||

With broken ear tops , broken and crushed flower garlands some looked like blooming creepers in dense forest crushed by mighty elephants.

ಚನ್ದ್ರಾಂಶುಕಿರಣಾಭಾಶ್ಚ ಹಾರಾಃ ಕಾಸಾಂಚಿದುತ್ಕಟಾಃ|
ಹಂಸಾ ಇವ ಬಭುಃ ಸುಪ್ತಾಃ ಸ್ತನಮಧ್ಯೇಷು ಯೋಷಿತಾಮ್||49||

ಕಾಸಾಂಚಿತ್ ಯೋಷಿತಾಂ ಸ್ತನಮಧ್ಯೇಷು ಉತ್ಕಟಾಃ ಚಂದ್ರಾಂಶುಕಿರಣಾಭಾಃ ಚ ಹಾರಾಃ ಸುಪ್ತಾಃ ಹಂಸಾ ಇವ ಬಭುಃ||

Some of the women with shining pearl chains, which were shining like rays of moon, resting between their breast. They looked like swans in sleep.

ಅಪರಾಸಾಂ ಚ ವೈಢೂರ್ಯಾಃ ಕಾದಮ್ಬಾ ಇವ ಪಕ್ಷಿಣಃ|
ಹೇಮಸೂತ್ರಾಣಿ ಚಾನ್ಯಾಸಾಂ ಚಕ್ರವಾಕಾ ಇವಾಭವನ್||50||

ಸ|| ಪರಾಸಾಂಶ್ಚ ವೈಡೂರ್ಯಾಃ ಪಕ್ಷಿಣಃ ಕಾದಮ್ಬಾಃ ಇವ ಅನ್ಯಾಸಾಮ್ ಹೇಮಸೂತ್ರಾಣಿ ಪಕ್ಷಿಣಃ ಚಕ್ರವಾಕಾ ಇವ||

The Vaidhurya worn by women looked like Kadamba birds , the golden chains on others looked like Chakravaka birds.

ಹಂಸಕಾರಣ್ಡವಾಕೀರ್ಣಾಃ ಚಕ್ರವಾಕೋಪಶೋಭಿತಾಃ|
ಆಪಗಾ ಇವ ತಾ ರೇಜುರ್ಜಘನೈಃ ಪುಲಿನೈರಿವ||51||

ಸ|| ಜಘನೈಃ ಪುಲಿನೈಃ ಇವ ತಾಃ ಹಂಸಕಾರಣ್ಡವಾಕೀಣಾಃ ಚಕ್ರವಾಕೋಪಶೋಭಿತಾಃ ಆಪಗಾ ಇವ ರೇಜುಃ||

With the hips like river banks, they shone like rivers with Hamsas, Karandas and Chakravaka birds.

ಕಿಙ್ಕಿಣೀಜಾಲ ಸಂಕೋಶಾಸ್ತಾ ಹೈಮವಿಪುಲಾಮ್ಬುಜಾಃ|
ಭಾವಗ್ರಾಹಾ ಯಶಸ್ತೀರಾಃ ಸುಪ್ತಾನದ್ಯ ಇವಾಽಽಬಭುಃ||52||

ಸ|| ಸುಪ್ತಾಃ ಕಿಂಕಿಣೀಜ್ವಾಲಸಂಕೋಶಾಃ ಹೈಮವಿಪುಲಾಮ್ಬುಜಾಃ ಭಾವಗ್ರಾಹಾಃ ಯಶಸ್ತೀರಾಃ ನದ್ಯಾ ಇವ ಆಬಭುಃ||

With tiny bells tied around the waist looking like buds, bold golden ornaments looking like lotuses, their gestures of love looking like passion of crocodiles, their radiant beauty looking like silver banks , the sleeping ones appeared like rivers.

ಮೃದುಷ್ವಙ್ಗೇಷು ಕಾಸಾಂಚಿತ್ ಕುಚಾಗ್ರೇಷು ಚ ಸಂಸ್ಥಿತಾಃ|
ಬಭೂವುರ್ಭೂಷಣಾ ನೀವ ಶುಭಾ ಭೂಷಣರಾಜಯಃ||53||

ಸ|| ಕಾಸಾಂಚಿತ್ ಮೃದುಷು ಅಂಗೇಷು ಕುಚಾಗ್ರೇಷು ಚ ಸಂಸ್ಥಿತಾಃ ಶುಭಾಃ ಭೂಷಣರಾಜಯಃ ಭೂಷಣಾನೀವ ಬಭೂವುಃ ||

Some women with the tender limbs and breast and nipples imprinted with marks of ornaments, themselves looked like ornaments.

ಅಂಶುಕಾನ್ತಾಶ್ಚ ಕಾಸಾಂಚಿನ್ ಮುಖಮಾರುತಕಂಪಿತಾಃ|
ಉಪರ್ಯುಪರಿವಕ್ತ್ರಾಣಾಂ ವ್ಯಾಧೂಯನ್ತೇ ಪುನಃ ಪುನಃ||54||

ಸ|| ಕಾಸಾಂಚಿತ್ ಮುಖಮಾರುತಕಂಪಿತಾಃ ಅಂಶುಕಾಂತಾಶ್ಚ ವಕ್ತ್ರಾಣಾಂ ಉಪರಿ ಉಪರಿ ಪುನಃ ಪುನಃ ವ್ಯಾಧೂಯನ್ತೇ||

Some women with breath released by their mouths shaking the fringes of garments, made them flutter again and again.

ತಾಃ ಪತಾಕಾಇವೋದ್ಧೂತಾಃ ಪತ್ನೀನಾಂ ರುಚಿರಪ್ರಭಾಃ|
ನಾನಾವರ್ಣ ಸುವರ್ಣಾನಾಂ ವಕ್ತ್ರಮೂಲೇಷು ರೇಜಿರೇ||55||

ಸ|| ನಾನಾವರ್ಣಸುವರ್ಣಾನಾಂ ಪತ್ನೀನಾಮ್ ವಕ್ರಮೂಲೇಷು ತಾಃ ರುಚಿರಪ್ರಭಾಃ ಉಧ್ದೂತಾಃ ಪತಾಕಾಃ ಇವ ರೇಜಿರೇ||

The fringes of their garments with different hues shone beautifully close to their faces like splendid flags,

ವವಲ್ಗುಶ್ಚಾತ್ರ ಕಾಸಾಂಚಿತ್ ಕುಣ್ಡಲಾನಿ ಶುಭಾರ್ಚಿಷಾಮ್|
ಮುಖಮಾರುತ ಸಂಸರ್ಗಾನ್ ಮನ್ದಂ ಮನ್ದಂ ಸುಯೋಷಿತಾಮ್||56||

ಸ|| ಶುಭಾರ್ಚಿಷಾಮ್ ಕಾಸಾಂಶ್ಚಿತ್ ಯೋಷಿತಾಂ ಕುಣ್ಡಲಾನಿ ಅತ್ರ ಮುಖ ಮಾರುತ ಸಂಸರ್ಗಾತ್ ಮನ್ದಂ ಮನ್ದಂ ವವಲ್ಗುಶ್ಚ||

The ear tops, swinging under the breath of some of the women endowed with auspicious charms, were softly generating a gentle sound.

ಶರ್ಕರಾಽಸನ ಗನ್ಧೈಶ್ಚ ಪ್ರಕೃತ್ಯಾ ಸುರಭಿಃ ಸುಖಃ|
ತಾಸಾಂ ವದನನಿಶ್ವ್ಯಾಸಃ ಸಿಷೇವೇ ರಾವಣಂ ತದಾ||57||

ಸ||ತದಾ ಪ್ರಕೃತ್ಯಾ ಶರ್ಕರಾಸವಗನ್ಧೈಶ್ಚ ಸುರಭಿಃ ಸುಖಃ ತಾಸಾಮ್ ವದನನಿಃಶ್ವಾಸಃ ರಾವಣಂ ಶಿಷೇವೇ||

Then the natural sweet smell of wine from their mouths and the natural fragrance of their breath were serving Ravana in their own way.

ರಾವಣಾನನಶಙ್ಕಾಶ್ಚ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿತ್ ರಾವಣಯೋಷಿತಃ|
ಮುಖಾನಿ ಸ್ಮ ಸಪತ್ನೀನಾಂ ಉಪಾಜಿಘ್ರನ್ ಪುನಃ ಪುನಃ||58||

ಸ|| ಕಶ್ಚಿತ್ ರಾವಣ ಯೋಷಿತಾಃ ರಾವಣಾನನಶಂಕಾಶ್ಚ ಪುನಃ ಪುನಃ ಸಪತ್ನೀನಾಮ್ ಮುಖಾನಿ ಉಪಾಜಿಘ್ರನ್||

Some of the wives of Ravana kissed their co-wives assuming it to be Ravana's face.

ಅತ್ಯರ್ಥಂ ಸಕ್ತಮನಸೋ ರಾವಣೇ ತಾ ವರಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ|
ಅಸ್ವತಂತ್ರಾಃ ಸಪತ್ನೀನಾಂ ಪ್ರಿಯಮೇವಾಽಽಚರಂ ಸ್ತದಾ||59||

ಸ|| ರಾವಣೇ ಅತ್ಯರ್ಥಂ ಸಕ್ತ ಮನಸಃ ತಾ ವರಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ ಅಸ್ವತಂತ್ರಾಃ ತದಾ ಸಪತ್ನೀನಾಮ್ ಪ್ರಿಯಮೇವ ಆಚರನ್ ||

Very much devoted to Ravana and not being free some of his wives responded pleasingly.

ಬಾಹೂನ್ ಉಪವಿಧಾಯಾನ್ಯಾಃ ಪಾರಿಹಾರ್ಯವಿಭೂಷಿತಾನ್|
ಅಂಶುಕಾನಿ ಚ ರಮ್ಯಾಣಿ ಪ್ರಮದಾಸ್ತತ್ರ ಶಿಶ್ಯಿರೇ||60||

ಅನ್ಯಾಃ ಪ್ರಮದಾಃ ಪರಿಹಾರ್ಯ ವಿಭೂಷಿತಾನ್ ಬಾಹೂನ್ ರಮ್ಯಾಣಿ ಅಂಶುಕಾನಿ ಉಪನಿಧಾಯ ಶಿಶ್ಯಿರೇ||

Other women laying aside their adornments used their arms as pillows others used their garment as pillows.

ಅನ್ಯಾವಕ್ಷಸಿ ಚಾನ್ಯಸ್ಯಾಃ ತಸ್ಯಾಃ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿತ್ ಪುನರ್ಭುಜಮ್|
ಅಪರಾತ್ವಂಕ ಮನ್ಯಸ್ಯಾಃ ತಸ್ಯಾಶ್ಚಾಪ್ಯಪರಾಭುಜೌ||61||

ಸ|| ಅನ್ಯಾಃ ಅನ್ಯಸ್ಯಾಃ ವಕ್ಷಸಿ ಕಾಚಿತ್ ಪುನಃ ತಸ್ಯಾಃ ಭುಜಂ ಅಪರಾ ಅನ್ಯಸ್ಯಾಃ ಅಂಕಂ ಅಪರಾ ತಸ್ಯಾಃ ಭುಜೌ ಶಿಶ್ಯಿರೇ||

Some women slept on the chest of others, another ( slept ) on the shoulders of yet another , and another ( slept) in the lap of the other.

ಊರುಪಾರ್ಶ್ವಕಟೀ ಪೃಷ್ಠಂ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಸ್ಯ ಸಮಾಶ್ರಿತಾಃ|
ಪರಸ್ಪರನಿವಿಷ್ಟಾಙ್ಗ್ಯೋ ಮದಸ್ನೇಹವಶಾನುಗಾಃ||62||

ಸ|| ಮದಸ್ನೇಹವಶಾನುಗಾಃ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಸ್ಯ ಉರುಪಾರ್ಶ್ವಕಟೀಪೃಷ್ಠಂ ಸಮಾಶ್ರಿತಾಃ ಪರಮನಿವಿಷ್ಟಾಙ್ಗ್ಯಃ ಶಿಶ್ಯಿರೇ||

Given to intoxication and love the women slept touching one other's thighs, sides, hips , back and lap of another with their limbs intertwined.

ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಭುಜಸೂತ್ರೇಣ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಮಾಲಾಗ್ರಥಿತಾ ಹಿ ಸಾ|
ಮಾಲೇವ ಗ್ರಥಿತಾ ಸೂತ್ರೇ ಶುಶುಭೇ ಮತ್ತಷಟ್ಪದಾ||63||

ಸ|| ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯ ಭುಜಸೂತ್ರೇಣ ಗ್ರಥಿತಾ ಸಾ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಮಾಲಾ ಸೂತ್ರೇ ಗ್ರಥಿತಾ ಮತ್ತಷಟ್ಪದಾಃ ಮಾಲೇವ ಶಿಶ್ಯಿರೇ ||

Strung together with another, they looked like a garland of flowers. The women shone like tipsy bees on a garland of flowers .

ಲತಾನಾಂ ಮಾಧವೇ ಮಾಸಿ ಪುಲ್ಲನಾಂ ವಾಯುಸೇವನಾತ್ |
ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಮಾಲಾಗ್ರಥಿತಂ ಸಂಸಕ್ತ ಕುಸುಮೋಚ್ಚಯಮ್||64||
ವ್ಯತಿವೇಷ್ಟಿತ ಸುಸ್ಕನ್ಧಂ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಭ್ರಮರಾಕುಲಮ್|
ಆಸೀದ್ವನ ಮಿವೋದ್ಧೂತಮ್ ಸ್ತ್ರೀವನಂ ರಾವಣಸ್ಯ ತತ್||65||

ಸ|| ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಮಾಲಾಗ್ರಥಿತಮ್ ಸಂಸಕ್ತ ಕುಸುಮೋಚ್ಚಯಮ್ ವ್ಯತಿವೇಷ್ಟಿತ ಸುಸ್ಕಂಧಂ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯ ಭ್ರಮರಾಕುಲಮ್ ರಾವಣಸ್ಯ ತತ್ ಸ್ತ್ರೀವನಂ ಮಾಘವೇ ಮಾಸಿ ವಾಯುಸೇವನಾತ್ ಫುಲ್ಲಾನಾಮ್ ಲತಾನಾಮ್ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಮಾಲಾಗ್ರಥಿತಮ್ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಭಮರಾಕುಲಮ್ ಉದ್ಧತಮ್ ವನಮ್ ಇವ ಆಸೀತ್ ||

Linked to each other like a chain like flowers on a string, tangled together with strong joints like bees swarming, that garden of women was like a garden of creepers with swarming bees and the blooms being blown by the wind with the creepers linked to each other.

ಉಚಿತೇಷ್ವಪಿ ಸುವ್ಯಕ್ತಂ ನ ತಾಸಾಂ ಯೋಷಿತಾಂ ತದಾ|
ವಿವೇಕಃ ಶಕ್ಯ ಆಧಾತುಂ ಭೂಷಣಾಙ್ಗಾಮ್ಬರಸ್ರಜಾಮ್||66||

ಸ||ತದಾ ತಾಸಾಂ ಯೋಷಿತಾಮ್ ಭೂಷಣಾಙ್ಗಾಮ್ಬರ ಸ್ರಜಾಮ್ ವಿವೇಕಃ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತಂ ಆಧಾತುಮ್ ಉಚಿತೇಷ್ವಪಿ ನ ಶಕ್ಯಃ||

It is not possible to distinguish between the ornaments , garments, limbs and garlands in order to place them in the right spots.

ರಾವಣೇಸುಖಸಂವಿಷ್ಟೇ ತಾಃ ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯೋ ವಿವಿಧ ಪ್ರಭಾಃ|
ಜ್ವಲಂತಃ ಕಾಞ್ಚನಾ ದೀಪಾಃ ಪ್ರೈಕ್ಷಂತಾಽನಿಮಿಷಾ ಇವ||67||

ಸ|| ರಾವಣೇ ಸುಖಸಂವಿಷ್ಟೇ ವಿವಿಧಪ್ರಭಾಃ ತಾಃ ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ ಜ್ವಲಂತಃ ಕಾಂಚನಾಃ ದೀಪಾಃ ಇವ ಅನಿಮಿಷಾಃ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಂತ ಇವ ಆಸೀತ್||

When Ravana was sleeping happily, the different lights burning on the lamp posts seemed to be gazing at the women without winking

ರಾಜರ್ಷಿಪಿತೃದೈತ್ಯಾನಾಂ ಗನ್ಧರ್ವಾಣಾಂ ಚ ಯೋಷಿತಃ|
ರಾಕ್ಷಸಾನಾಂ ಚ ಯಾಃ ಕನ್ಯಾಃ ತಸ್ಯ ಕಾಮವಶಂ ಗತಾಃ||68||

ಸ||ರಾಜರ್ಷಿ ಪಿತ್ರುದೈತ್ಯಾನಾಮ್ ಗಂಧರ್ವಾಣಾಂ ಯೋಷಿತಃ ರಾಕ್ಷಸಾನಾಮ್ ಯಾಃ ಕನ್ಯಾಃ ತಸ್ಯ ಕಾಮವಶಾನುಗತಾಃ ||

The women who hailed from families of royal sages , ancestral deities, Daityas and Rakshasis gave themselves to him, being infatuated with him.

ಯುದ್ಧಕಾಮೇನ ತಾ ಸ್ಸರ್ವಾ ರಾವಣೇನ ಹೃತಾ ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ|
ಸಮದಾ ಮದನೇನೈವ ಮೋಹಿತಾಃ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿದಾಗತಾಃ||69||

ಸ|| ಸರ್ವಾಃ ತಾಃ ಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ ಯುದ್ಧಕಾಮೇನ ರಾವಣೇನ ಹೃತಾಃ ಸಮದಾಃ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿತ್ ಮದನೇನ ಮೋಹಿತಾಃ ಏವ ಆಗತಾಃ||

All of those women were won over in a battle , some came on their own blinded by lust

ನ ತತ್ರ ಕಾಚಿತ್ ಪ್ರಮದಾ ಪಸಹ್ಯ
ವೀರ್ಯೋಪಪನ್ನೇನ ಗುಣೇನ ಲಬ್ಧಾ|
ನ ಚಾನ್ಯಕಾಮಾಪಿ ನ ಚಾನ್ಯಪೂರ್ವಾ
ವಿನಾ ವರಾರ್ಹಂ ಜನಕಾತ್ಮಜಾಂ ತಾಮ್||70||

ಸ|| ವರಾರ್ಹಂ ತಾಂ ಜನಕಾತ್ಮಜಾಂ ವಿನಾ ತತ್ರ ಕಾಶ್ಚಿತ್ ಪ್ರಮದಾ ವೀರ್ಯೋಪಪನ್ನೇನ ಪ್ರಸಹ್ಯ ನ ಲಬ್ಧಾ ಗುಣೇನ ಲಬ್ಧಾ | ಅನ್ಯಕಾಮಾಪಿ ಚ ನ | ಅನ್ಯಪೂರ್ವಾಚ ನ ||

Except for the revered daughter of Janaka, none of the women were obtained by his valor forcibly. They were not in love with another , nor were they married earlier.

ನ ಚಾಕುಲೀನಾ ನ ಚ ಹೀನರೂಪಾ
ನಾದಕ್ಷಿಣಾ ನಾನುಪಚಾರಯುಕ್ತಾ|
ಭಾರ್ಯಾಭವತ್ತಸ್ಯ ನ ಹೀನಸತ್ತ್ವಾ
ನ ಚಾಪಿ ಕಾನ್ತಸ್ಯ ನ ಕಾಮನೀಯಾ||71||

ಸ|| ತಸ್ಯ ಭಾರ್ಯಾ ಅಕುಲೀನಾ ನ ಚ ಅಭವತ್ | ಹೀನರೂಪಾಚ ನ | ಅದಕ್ಷಿಣಾ ಚ ನ | ಅನುಪಚಾರಯುಕ್ತಾ ಚ ನ || ಹೀನಸತ್ತ್ವಾ ಚ ನ | ಕಾನ್ತಸ್ಯ ನ ಕಾಮನೀಯಾ||

None among them was not born of a noble family. None lacked beauty. None was unkind. None was lacking in courtesy. None not lovable for the lover.

ಬಭೂವ ಬುದ್ಧಿಸ್ತು ಹರೀಶ್ವರಸ್ಯ
ಯದೀದೃಶೀ ರಾಘವ ಧರ್ಮಪತ್ನೀ|
ಇಮಾ ಯಥಾ ರಾಕ್ಷಸರಾಜ ಭಾರ್ಯಾಃ
ಸುಜಾತಮಸ್ಯೇತಿ ಹಿ ಸಾಧುಬುದ್ಧೇಃ||72||

ಸ|| ಇಮಾಃ ರಾಕ್ಷಸರಾಜಭಾರ್ಯಾಃ ಯಥಾ ರಾಘವಪತ್ನೀ ಈದೃಶೀ ಅಸ್ಯ ಸುಜಾತಾಮ್ ಇತಿ ಸಾಧುಬುದ್ಧೇಃ ಹರೀಶ್ವರಸ್ಯ ಬುದ್ಧಿಸ್ತು ಬಭೂವ ||

Hanuman thought , if the wife of Raghava born of good family could stay (with her husband) like the wives of this Rakshasa king , it would be fortunate.

ಪುನಶ್ಚ ಸೋಽಚಿನ್ತಯ ದಾರ್ತರೂಪೋ
ಧ್ರುವಂ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟಾ ಗುಣತೋ ಹಿ ಸೀತಾ|
ಅಧಾಯ ಮಸ್ಯಾಂ ಕೃತವಾನ್ ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾ
ಲಙ್ಕೇಶ್ವರಃ ಕಷ್ಟ ಮನಾರ್ಯಕರ್ಮ||73||

ಸ||ಸಃ ದಾರ್ತರೂಪಃ ಪುನಶ್ಚ ಅಚಿನ್ತಯತ್ ಸೀತಾ ಧ್ರುವಂ ಗುಣತಃ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಠಾ ಅಥ ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾ ಅಯಂ ಲಂಕೇಶ್ವರಃ ಅಸ್ಯಾಂ ಅನಾರ್ಯಂ ಕೃತವಾನ್ ಕಷ್ಟಮ್||

Then he felt sad , thinking again, "Sita is surely by her virtues superior (to all) . The king of Lanka has indeed committed an ignoble act".

ಇತ್ಯಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯೇ
ಚತುರ್ವಿಂಶತ್ ಸಹಸ್ರಿಕಾಯಾಂ ಸಂಹಿತಾಯಾಮ್
ಶ್ರೀಮತ್ಸುಂದರಕಾಂಡೇ ನವಮಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ||

Thus the ninth Sarga of Sundarakanda in Ramayan , the first ever poem written by Valmiki ends||
